Christianson
cleans up at Provincial Open.

30:
Jordan Christianson of Saskatoon sealed his first Provincial Open Mens Singles
champiosnhip by winning all his round robin matches over the weekend. This was
the 91st edition of the provincial championships in Saskatchewan, and Jordan is
the 12th person from Saskatoon in the history of provincial champioships to win
the OPen Mens Singles. He breaks a 7 year drought for Saskatchewan players -
the last winner from Chris Sadek in 2001.
Jordan partnered up with Jeet Kapadia of Regina
(pictured on the right) to also capture the Open Mens Doubles crown, which is
Jordan's second in a row.

Boyd
Hollerbaum awarded Tennis Saskatchewan Leadership Award.

22:
At its annual AGM, Tennis Saskatchewan presented its Leadership Award to Boyd
Hollerbaum of Lloydminster. Boyd has been instrumental in the development of
community tennis in Lloyminster over the lasy 9 years. In accepting the award,
Boyd noted the challenges in getting tennis started, from ensuring local
support from municipal government, to facilities, to getting volunteer help.
Boyd said it takes a team to make things happen, and recognised the help of
many volunteers, including Rod and Lois Shopland and Travis Knee who were
in attendance. Rod made mention that it still takes leadership and praised Boyd
for his efforts. Tennis Saskatchewan congratulates Boyd, and wishes the
Lloydminster Tennis Association continued success.

Tennis
Saskatchewan Annual General Meeting.

June
21:
Tennis Saskatchewan held its annual general meeting on Saturday June
21st in Lloydminster. At the meeting the President' and Executive
Director's reports were received, the 2009-2010 Affiliation Fee Schedule was
established, the financial statements of the Auditor was received and auditors
appointed for next year. In addition, the 2008-2009 officers and directors were
elected.
President Gerry Gieni
(pictured), Bob Kirkpatrick (Vice-President), Tim Makahoniuk (Secretary) and
Rob Parker (Treasurer) were elected officers. Kelley Boyko, Scott Carson,
Jordan Piller and Blaine Stohl are the directors completing their second term.
New to the board and elected for a 2 year term are Nathan Forester, Bob Hickie
and Tanya Waslen of Saskatoon, and Linda Sulz of Regina. Tim McMahon is the
past-president.

and College National Tennis Championships

Male and female event winners at the regional play downs will qualify for a
berth in the second annual university and college national tennis championship
during the final weekend of the Rogers Cup.

Blatchford
Supreme in Desert Classic
Feb 18:
Cory Blatchford of Saskatoon paired up with
fellow Canadian Lee Carter to win the doubles event at the USTA SouthWest
Desert Classic held in Tucson, Arizona. As top seeds, Blatchford and Carter
defeated Americans Marty Anderson and Shane Everitt-Sharpe in the semi-finals.
In the final, against Americans Anthony Anderson and Anthony Lara, the Canadian
duo dropped the first set 4/6, but came on strong and finished with 6/0, 6/0.
Blatchford also had a great singles run. While his
partner Carter captured the singles title, Blatchford reached the final 4,
including an impressive 7/5,6/1 win over the No3 seed Anthony Lara who is
ranked 40 spots higher than him on the NEC Wheelchair rankings. Blatchford lost
in the semis to the No2 seed Paul Moran of the United States.

Association (TPA) National Coaching conference has been booked for Feb 28-29
this year at York University in Toronto. The conference appeals to all coaches
and club professionals. This year's conference features a great lineup of
speakers, the Wilson TPA Awards breakfast, exhibitions and a parent-coach
