Advantage Tennis Club Junior Open (SELECTION #1)

The Advantage Tennis Club hosted the first of three selection tournaments to qualify 4 participants in each age category to represent the Prairie Team at the U14, U16 and U18 Canadian Junior Nationals, which is to be held in April. This event is part of a prairie circuit which will have event is both Saskatchewan and Manitoba respectively.

Saskatchewan players competed very well in the first selection tournament, having at least one player in all but one final. In addition, Saskatchewan players captured 4 events out of 7 events. Leading the way for Saskatchewan players was 9-year old Lily Wiebe who captured the U12 & U14 Girls Singles events. On the boys side Jordan Christiansen defeated fellow Saskatchewan player Eric Yee to capture the U14 selection. Sean LaCap of Winnipeg, Manitoba captured the U16 & U18 singles titles.

Special thanks goes to the Advantage Tennis Centre, Dennis Rennie – tournament referee, the parents and players & coaches from Manitoba. The next selection event will take place on February 17 – 20, 2005 at the Winnipeg Winter Club.

U18 Girls Final:
Alexa Zayac (Manitoba) def. Teo Costin (Saskatchewan) 6-2, 6-1

U14 Boys Final:
Jordan Christiansen (Saskatchewan) def. Eric Yee (Saskatchewan) 6-4, 7-5

U16 Boys Final:
Sean LaCap (Manitoba) def. Michael Black (Manitoba) 6-0, 6-3

U18 Boys Final:
Sean LaCap (Manitoba) def. Ronan Conlon (Saskatchewan) 6-2, 7-6

The future is bright for Lily as she has many more years in the U12 division. Good effort Lily Wiebe.
