Tennis
Saskatchewan Provincial Junior Team Policies
Eligibility for Junior National Competition, Canada
Games, Western Canada Summer Games and/or other major games / competitions
will be based on the following criteria:
- All athletes must maintain a permanent residence
in the province of Saskatchewan as evidenced by a valid Saskatchewan
Health Services Card. Students attending school out of province are
eligible to participate, however they must still meet the above mentioned
residence criteria.
- All athletes must be in good standing with Tennis
Saskatchewan (i.e. financial, discipline, etc.)
- All athletes must participate in a minimum of six
tournaments "Sanctioned" by a Provincial, State, and/or National Tennis
Association, provided two of these tournaments are Saskatchewan Sanctioned
Junior Open Tournaments (the Provincial Junior "Outdoor" Open will
count as two tournaments), within the 12 month period immediately
preceding the date of the applicable qualifying event.
- All athletes must attend all training camps and
competitive trips/events prior to major competitions (i.e. Canada
/ Western Canada Summer Games). All athletes will be notified of all
mandatory camps and competitive trips/events prior to the first camp
or trip/event.*
- Athletes training out of province (i.e. attending
school out of province) must attend training camps and competitive
trips/events when possible. When attending training camps / competitive
trips/events are not possible, athletes must provide the following
documentation to Tennis Saskatchewan prior to appropriate registration
deadline dates:
- Letter from Program / School Head Coach indicating
that athlete is actively training and competing at an appropriate
level.
- Participate in and complete an appropriate "Tennis
Saskatchewan Training Journal" (i.e. Canada Summer Games Journal)
outlining individual training program.
The Tennis Saskatchewan Sask First (High Performance)
Committee reserves the right to award a merit spot in extraordinary
circumstances to a player who has not qualified through the normal qualifying
process. A player will only be granted a merit spot when the Sask First
Committee, in its sole discretion, is satisfied that the player's history
demonstrates that he/she would otherwise make the provincial team and
the circumstances justify that player excused from normal qualifying
procedures.
Appeals, based on extenuating circumstances, must be
received in writing, on or before appropriate registration date.
