The Saskatchewan Senior Team delivered an impressive performance at the recent ITF Tournament in Calgary, bringing home multiple medals and strong results across several divisions.
Denise Fernandez Leads the Charge
Regina’s Denise Fernandez emerged as the standout performer of the tournament, capturing two gold medals in an exceptional showing.
Fernandez first claimed gold in the women’s 30s doubles alongside partner Erin Silverman. The pair displayed excellent chemistry and composure throughout the tournament, working seamlessly together to secure the top spot on the podium.
She followed this victory with another gold medal in the women’s 40s doubles, this time partnering with Eva Koksalova. Competing across two different age divisions and succeeding in both is no small feat, highlighting Fernandez’s versatility, endurance, and competitive spirit.

Strong Podium Finish for Marcia Jackson
Another highlight came from Marcia Jackson of Saskatoon, a respected member of the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame. Jackson captured a silver medal in the women’s 70s singles division after a series of strong matches.
Her performance once again demonstrated the longevity and excellence that have defined her career. Jackson continues to be a role model for senior athletes across Saskatchewan, proving that competitive tennis can remain a lifelong pursuit.
Gold for Terry Tuharsky
Terry Tuharsky added another gold medal to Saskatchewan’s tally with a victory in the men’s 70s doubles. His performance showcased both experience and strategic play, helping secure another podium finish for the province.

Alex Chavez advanced to the semi finals in the men’s 50s singles division, showing resilience and competitive consistency against a strong field of players.
Nathan Morrison also had an impressive showing, reaching the quarter finals in the men’s 40s singles division after a series of hard fought matches.
Sam Lamb, a former Lakeshore junior player, also found success at the tournament. Competing alongside Alex Chavez in the men’s 50s division, Lamb reached the quarter finals and contributed to Saskatchewan’s overall strong presence in the draw.
