Lakewood Rogers Rookie Tour & Challenger Tour Announced

Lakewood Indoor Tennis Centre has announced the dates for the 2017/18 indoor season’s Rogers Rookie Tour and Challenger Tour. This year, both tours will consist of one-day events, held on Sundays. Competing players can earn provincial ranking points for the Challenger Tour. As well, both tours have an internal ranking system, where players compete for a tour-end place in the top three. Rogers Rookie Tour

The Rogers Rookie Tour is a national program designed to bridge the gap between entry-level tennis and the provincial competitive Junior Circuit. New and experienced players can enter these events, which have a focus on fun and guarantee multiple matches. Lakewood divides its Rogers Rookie Tour events into three divisions, based on which ball a players uses. Players can compete in one of the three divisions in each tournament:

Red is for players up to age eight. Matches are played on the Stage 1 Red Court, and use a low-compression Red Tennis Ball. A Round Robin format is always used in this division. Players do not need to know traditional tennis scoring.

Orange is for competitive players up to age 9 and recreational players up to age 12. Matches are played on the Stage 2 Orange Court, and use a low-compression Orange Tennis Ball. Depending on number of entries, draws will either be Round Robin or Compass format, meaning that players will get several matches – even if they lose. Players need to know traditional tennis scoring in order to compete.

Green is for competitive players up to age 10 and recreation players up to age 17. Matches are played on the Stage 3 Full Court, and use a medium-compression Green Tennis Ball. Depending on number of entries, draws will either be Round Robin or Compass format, meaning that players will get several matches – even if they lose. Players need to know traditional tennis scoring in order to compete.

Challenger Tour

The Challenger Tour is a series of one-day tournaments for various age groups of competitive junior players. All events are played with a regulation ball on a full tennis court. Full match scoring is used and tournament format varies based on number of entries. The Challenger Tour is ideal for players already competing at provincial tournaments, who are looking to gain more tournament experience. Players can earn ranking points by competing in these events.
