Regina’s Isabella Ruyu Yan, competing in only her second U12 Fischer Outdoor Junior Nationals, brought home the doubles title and a second-place finish in singles.
Shen and Yan were the No. 4-seed in doubles action and cruised through the first two rounds, losing only five games in the two matches. In the semi-finals, they won a tight match by defeating Quebec’s Leylatou Aliassime and Alyssa Beltei 7-6(5), 6-3. In the final, Shen and Yan defeated the No. 1-seed Jasmine Li and Maria Youssef of Ontario (6-3, 6-3).
In singles competition, No. 5-ranked Yan went 3-0 in her round robin pool qualifying for the 16 player Championship Event. In the Championship Qualifying/Champs Flight, Yan won her first three matches in convincing style, before losing to her doubles partner, Shen, in the final.
